Every recall app I tried matched on brand name, so a nationwide headline turned into a false alarm in my kitchen. CanIEatThis? reads the lot code, UPC and best by date off a photo of the package and tells you whether your specific unit is covered, along with how long it's actually good for based on USDA storage data.
- Ingests recalls from FDA, USDA FSIS and CPSC nightly, 1,600+ and counting. An AI pass turns each free text notice into checkable lot rules once, then caches it
- Matching and date logic run in plain JavaScript, so answering a user costs nothing
- Saved pantries get rechecked every night with alerts only when something you own is covered
